Day 6

Today's breakfast was skipped! Woke up late and didn't feel super hungry until 11:30 when I decided it was just lunchtime!

However, perhaps part of the reason for that was because I desperately needed a coffee change so I blended up one cup of coffee with a touch of cocoa powder plus a frozen banana. Normally I would probably think this was a so-so beverage, but today, it was the BEST thing I have ever tasted! It felt like a decadent dessert drink and it was fabulous. I know it was technically all "approved"-maybe not as much the cocoa powder (unsure actually on that one), but I did feel a little like I cheated! I also REALLY want to eliminate my taste for sweet coffee so this probably isn't a good every day thing to do, but it was a very nice break!

Lunch was a salad, eaten on the go while the rest of my family had Burger King!! Smelling and seeing French fries was definitely a temptation and all I wanted was to just order a chicken sandwich with a large fry but I knew that the way I felt about it right now would only last about 5 minutes, and pretty much as soon as I started eating it, I would regret it and my body would feel awful. So I resisted!

While driving around looking at houses, I really craved a sweet coffee from Dunkies but resisted again!

Dinner was chicken soup which was not bad, but not exceptionally good. I brought it to go to our church meeting, where food being served included couscous and chicken wings, meatball sliders with cheese, soda, iced tea, cookies and brownies! The soda was weirdly a temptation, and of course, the desserts. But I resisted!

The hardest part was carrying the cookies out from the church to the car, because I planned to bring them to Bible Study which was directly afterwards. I just wanted to open up the bowl and eat all of them! Haha.

Bible study followed church and I was again met with temptations of chocolate cake with whipped cream and strawberries that looked amazing and the aforementioned cookies. Luckily, I came prepared with an apple and almond butter which kept me distracted!

I am really amazed and proud of all of my resisting today, I was certainly thrown into many situations where that was necessary. The KEY for sure is being prepared with food that I *can* eat so that I don't feel left out or deprived. Of course, it sucks to eat an apple when everyone else is eating cookies, but it at least keeps my mouth and mind distracted enough to not have to think about it too much.

I can't believe I've almost made it a week! More meal prep was done today, boiling a bunch more eggs for this week and tomorrow I'll make some salads when the groceries come. The preparation is making this SO much easier. I can't imagine doing this if I didn't prepare down to the meal.

Edit: found an article on the whole 30 website about cocoa powder: https://whole30.com/2013/12/great-cocoa-debate/
Its apparently a big debate but they say at the end "We decided that 100% cocoa (or cacao) is acceptable on the Whole30. You’re welcome."
However, I agree with the points where if the point is to eliminate sweet cravings, then feeding that beast is not a good thing. While I don't think I cheated eating some cocoa powder, I don't think I am going to make it a regular thing either!
